Hi, I am completely new to all this and have found myself landed with a duck I rescued. We live in Abu Dhabi and the temperatures are v high. The duck was one of four that some local neighbours had in tiny cage in garden. I started feeding them vegetables and bits and giving water to supplement the spicy food and dry rice left in their cage. To cut a long sad story short, one duck was being pecked v badly. I removed and took to vet. He said she would have been dead two days later if left. I have nursed her in my garden. The other ducks have been taken to a farm. I'm stuck with this one. She is growing and free range in my garden. I have been unable to source duck food.. I am feeding rice, cucumber, lettuce, corn, peas., boiled egg. She does not like oats.
Today her wings are drooping. She seems v unhappy if picked up in such a way that wings are being folded in. She has long shafts from tips of wings with flight feathers just poking out ends.
Help!!!!

I can't really offer you any advice, I'm new to duck ownership as well. But I do want to commend you on doing such a wonderful, kind thing for that duck. Just reading how much you obviously care about her I'm sure she will be fine. You've come to the right place there are so many people on this site who really know so much about ducks that I'm sure you will get some great advice. Well done and the best of luck to you and your duck. :)

I did see reply! Thank you! I will see what I can mix up. Feed suppliers will only ship to here in huge quantities. Thanks for your help. I have raw apple vinegar. She had a little pond. Today she seems very tired and will only eat from my hand. I should add temperature around 46 Celsius degrees dropping to about 36 c at night..

Above are her droopy wings. Will the hard she'll just split away? The mirror is for company. They are scattered around garden and she likes to sit next to the other "ducks".

Can you get her into a cooler place, like 25C? They can overheat. Shaded wading pool, for example - nothing she could drown in or have trouble getting in and out.

I would spray her skin with mild saline solution four or five times a day to prevent infection. Poor thing.

Just a tiny bit of unsalted canned fish in water, or plain baked or boiled fish - a teaspoon twice a day for extra protein. Or a couple teaspoons of dry cat kibble, if that is available.

Hi
Thank you! She had antibiotics twice a day (wasn't easy) and infection risk has passed.. There is nowhere that is 25degrees I'm afraid, not even in my house. Lol
However she has never experienced anything below 30 so although not ideal it is the norm for her to be hot. Summers are tough here for all animals. She has a pool, I change water every few days. I will try tinned fish. She doesnt like cat kibble.
Any thoughts on her wings?
Thank you so much for advice!

Droopy wings alot of times means blood feathers are coming i n and they are heavy and it takes a while for the muscles to get strong enough to carry them where they need to sit next to her body.Could that be what your seeing? also when hot they will stand with wings out a little from side to cool off.

You did a wonderful job getting her back to health.
