hello all
last week we rescued a 2 ducklings from a drain i believe they are mallard ducks very very young. they are both doing well eating drinking pooping but we have noticed one of them isnt growing as fast as the other one. should i be concerned by this or will it catch up in time
thanks for any advice

Aww, very sweet of you to rescue those little babies!
I had three from a pet shop, and one was always smaller than the other two; he turned out just fine. I also rescued two babies back in April, and one was always smaller than the other. Turns out the bigger one is Rouen/part Rouen, I think - he's just a much larger duck. The little one is a normal-sized mallard.
My amateur opinion is that as long as he's eating/drinking/pooping normally, the little one is probably just fine. :)

Thought sharing some pics might put your mind at ease...plus I like showing off my babies. :)

the 3 pet shop babies - see how small Louie is on the far left? He grew up to be that pretty boy in my avatar. :)

my two rescues - then and now

thank u so much it has put my mind at ease the smaller one is fine in every other way so now comes the waiting to see if they are males or females and if they are wild mallards or rouen .and ur babies are so sweet and louie looks like a stunner :) thanks again

mine seem to have more yellow on their legs and feet then ur ducks as ducklings i still cant believe how fast they grow lol

the size difference could be different gender or just because they are just two seperate birds. my ducklings were different hatched at the same time but one was always bigger. the bigger one now turned out to be a thin tally and the little on the fat shorty :D
