Rescued pheasant - any tips???

I have rescued a young pheasant from my local shoot that was injured when it arrived last week. It was unable to stand and in the 3 days I have had it it now stands but tends to walk backwards. It can fly. I have it in my indoor pen that I have used for young chickens. It has a lamp at night, food, water and some branches to hide under as well as a shavings area to lie in. I also give it grass each day. Is there anything else I should do for it as this is my first time with a pheasant?

It may have brain damage in which case, only time will tell if it will get better or not. You seems to be giving it everything it needs so just wait & see from now.

Thanks - yes, I was wondering about brain damage. As long as you think I am doing the right things I will continue and hope it improves.

A pheasant usually flies as a last resort, preferring instead to run. Even under the best of conditions, they can can't fly very far. They land away from danger and take off running again. If you are planning on keeping him as a pet or a breeder its OK, but if he can't run forward, its over for him in the wild. Who knows, maybe he'll recover.

Well - the pheasant is doing really well and is now walking forwards quite strongly. I think I will return her to the pen with the others in about a week as she has a better chance of surviving than she will here. I will let you know what I decide.
