Had a hen on a clutch of eggs. She was only on them half the day every day for a week and I thought they were doomed but I left them just in case. Then this morning I went out...and lo and behold there are two popping eggs and a chick on the ground! I thought the chick was dead because it smelled funny and wasn't breathing but then I saw it moving. I took the pipping eggs and the mostly dead chick inside and put them in my incubator with my duck eggs. The pipping eggs have hatched. The dead chick wasn't dead anymore so I called him Lazarus (dead, back to life, smells funny, get it?).
I do have a dilemma however - I have my heat plate occupied with four week chicks which are like elephants compared to these. I would put them in on two weeks but I have ducks hatching then. I have a kind friend offering me a heat pad. They are all half Orp and quarter each Hyline and Araucana. They are lovely!
