Hello! I know this is a chicken forum, but I dont really know where else to find help. Whenever I go to my pet store, there is almost always a burden laying in the corner of their cage, puffed up, labored breathing, tail bobbing and such. I already have a clean cage, and a calm, quiet spot to put it. All I need to know is how exactly to nurse the bird back to health. It will either be a zebra finch or a budgie

While it is a great thing you're thinking of doing, it's likely to end in disappointment. With many of the small birds, by the time they show/look sick it is often too late to save them. I'd advise you not to waste your money this way. If the shop owner will give you the sick bird (which he/she might do as illnesses often spread), then give it a go if you wish to try. About the only treatment, without knowing exactly what is wrong, is a broad spectrum antibiotic. You will find this at the pet shop (maybe) or online under different brand names so you would need to read the product's label/or description.

Good luck with this endeavor.

Also if the store makes you pay for it, you’re only supporting their neglect unfortunately :(

Some pet shops can be very bad with their animals.

This is sort of off topic, but I personally think they shouldn't be allowed to sell pets, but instead, recommend a breeder to get them from. They often don't know enough about the animals they sell and people often buy pets prematurely because they see them in a pet shop.

Do you have other birds at home already? If so, I would not even go into the shop with sick birds. Some bird diseases are very easily spread.
