I have an interest in poultry production considering it's potential of contributing to the global demand for protein from animal sources and ensuring food security particularly in developing economies in sub-Saharan Africa. Having identified the adverse effects of high environmental temperature/heat stress of the growth and reproductive indexes broiler breeds. Global climate change with its attendant high environmental temperatures has the potential of compounding the exiting hot and humid atmospheric conditions in the tropics. It is thus imperative to develop ideal breeds, phenotypes as well as best management practices for higher productivity within tropical environments while ensuring the welfare of the birds.
