My chicks are 3 weeks old and I feel are having problem after problem. We struggled with bloody diarrhea, gave corid, now we seem to be dealing with a respiratory issue. One of the chicks stretches her neck and opens her mouth and they all shoot out droplets of liquid from their mouths/nostrils. There are only 4 of them in a large container in my garage and It’s plenty warm. Please, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I’m new to chicks and a big worry wart.

Where did the chicks come from—a breeder, a hatchery or feed store, or did you hatch them? How is the ventilation in the brooder? Do you see any watery or bubbly eyes, sneezing, other other symptoms besides the gasping? Have you got any antibiotics such as Tylosin or Denagard?

Welcome to BYC.
What are you using to heat them with?
Can you post a picture of the brooder?

Ventilation is good. They are in a large, new, raised garden bed with poultry net over top. I have a heater plate as well as a heat lamp as our garage can get cold. As they’ve grown, I’ve raised the heat lamp so it isn’t as warm as needed when they’re were first hatched.

I got them from a farm store about 45 minutes after they arrived. They were never even put in the stock tank with the rest.

No watery, bubbly or swollen eyes. All active and eating. No antibiotics like Tylosin or Denagard.

I have noticed that they are eating small pieces of the pine shavings that we use as their bedding. I have asked the farm store where I got them if I should change the bedding due to this but was told it should be fine.
