Respiratory infection

If you are dealing with MG (mycoplasma,) tetracycline and oxytetracycline are drugs that can treat it. In Canada, antibiotics usually have to come from a vet, unless you have your hands on some. Other antibiotics used are tylosin, doxycycline, Denagard, and others. Here is a good article about MG:

I don’t think it’s MG specifically.
There is respiratory distress, sneezing & a swollen eye. No discharge & no other symptoms, she’s been happily exploring my screened porch.

I’ve started her on tetracycline in hopes for improvement.
She’s off sugar water today & last night as I’ve started the antibiotic orally. Shes not as peppy but still getting around fine.
How long til I see improvement of it works?
Thanks!!

Just to add too. We havnt been anywhere & whomevers been here do not have chickens.

with covid there’s only been a limited number of people throughhere.
It’s been really humid & now rainy & wet. She’s the only one affected from the flock but I’ve started oil of oregano for them anyways

It sometimes can be hard to figure out how a chicken gets sick. There can be some exposure to wild migrating birds which can bring in a disease. Then chickens can have exposure to something and not show symptoms, but later when stressed or the weather conditions allow, they can get sick. Swelling of the eye can be a sign of MG, coryza, and sometimes E.coli infection. Pecks wounds and stings are other things that can cause swelling, but with sneezing and respiratory symptoms, it is probably respiratory. There are labs, such as the state vet or Zoologix that can test for certain diseases.

Hi!! We are back.

She’s just about gotten over the respiratory infection but now her eye has gotten worse.

unfortunately there’s no vet available to us..

I’ve had her on Tetracycline for just under 5 days now.

polysporn to eye & I have an anti fungal eye ointment too. Keeping it clean.

wondering how long she’s going to be sick for now :(
