How long can I keep my fresh butchered chicken resting in the fridge before cooking it? I want to eat it fresh, never frozen but my husband is a firefighter and is on duty so I want to wait until Sunday. The bird was processed Tuesday night, is this too long to wait? I plan to put it in the slow cooker Sunday morningso that would be about 4 days in the fridge

Wont be a problem to keep in fridge for 4 days. Usually I cant wait that long, but your wait will be well worth it.

It will be delicious.

I did 5 days on mine last week and mmmm mmmm it was good! Enjoy!!

Remember, it's a whole lot fresher than chicken from the store. It should last two weeks in the fridge without spoiling.

We process birds on Thursdays and tell out customers to freeze them by Tuesday night if they havent cooked them by then. This is advice we got from Eli of Poultry Man, who sells processing equipment nad runs a processing facility where he does over 20,000 birds per year.
