I'm expanding my run, and I need to set fence posts. I have some used posts that still have the cement ball attached. Do I need to break the cement off of the posts, or can I dig an extra big hole, and surround the old cement with new (including the top)?

I would do what you are thinking of... or actually, I would probably only use new cement if it looks like it really needs it... otherwise I would just back fill the hole, and pack it down as well as I could, and see if that felt sturdy enough

just remember that if you need to add cement, that water might work into the crack between the two and freeze etc. etc. or rot etc. etc.
