Hi

Please see pics of two of my chickens ..Rhode Island Red and White Leghorn.

RIR - grew some spiky black hairs near her Neck and thinning all over the body.

White Leghorn - Saw a red muchas or something in the rear near her vent.

I have 11 chickens and most of them are Molting. 8 of the chickens aged 1 year. i am only getting 2-3 eggs daily starting December whereas previously it was 5-6. I am located in NY.

Should i be concerned or is that a normal molting process ?

Thanks
Raheel

The RIR is molting, those are pin feathers growing in, perfectly normal.
The Leghorn looks like she has a prolapse, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will login, but she should be separated until the prolapse can be cleaned and put back inside.

:welcome The RIR is in a heavy molt and those are pin feathers replacing molted feathers. The leghorn presents more of a problem. Molting plus shortened daylight period has caused the reduction in egg production.

Thanks everyone for the input. Very helpful!!

Is there anything i can do to treat Prolapse other then seperating her from the flock?
