What comes to my mind is that the coop is to dark, and they can not see the roosts.
Pictures would really help here.
Add a low watt light on a timer and see if there is a difference.
Get rid of all access roosters.
Add more windows.
Try to solve this for your chickens before writing them off and starting with new ones that likely will suffer the same fate.

I'm betting your roosts are too close to the walls, too low and you don't have enough light.
Just going by your own given dimensions.
1 foot is too close, don't care how if it is tossed out as a guideline.
If that bird touches the wall forget about it.
The fattest birds here sleep 4 foot up, that is the lowest the babies don't even roost low.
Light, you don't need much just enough so they can see there are no guests in there.
And the red devil in the room, she is a RIR she isn't going to be displeased and you not know it.

Sorry, life got in the way and I kinda forgot about this thread until today when I came to post that I'm starting to get eggs.

I am running on the assumption that it is just too hot for them inside the coop at night. It's been so long now that they've been sleeping on top of it that it just seems to be the new normal. The RIR temperment wise are the most chill of the group. They'll squat down and let my daughter or I pet them, none of the others will. The barred rocks like to peck feet/shoes/calves, but are also the only ones that will eat out of our hand.

This is from move in day. They still go in to eat and drink throughout the day and play when I hang a head of lettuce in there. It doesn't stink, it stays dry, the bedding is now pushing 8 inches deep, and raking it hasn't revealed any snakes or predators.

All the air flow is up top, and it is pretty muggy around here pretty much the entire time it isn't snowing. I'm going to get a solar powered vent fan for the roof when I have a spare $100, they seem to be perfectly happy roaming and hanging out in the trees otherwise.

Although they did NOT like the fireworks that whistled on the 4th. Didn't mind any others, but did not like whistling.

This was number 3 found this week in the same spot. I'm more curious about it than anything, as the only chickens I have that don't lay brown eggs I've become convinced are roosters because they have massively tall and spiky combs and big waddles.
