Rhode Island Red Hybrid??

What is a Rhode Island Red Hybrid? Is it something that I could breed with my regular rirs and still get a pure rir?

A hybrid is a cross between two breeds, usually for the purpose of producing a bird that will be superior for one quality, like egg-laying or meatiness (often this superiority only lasts for that one generation, subsequent crosses are often unpredictable, and hybrids don't breed true). A RIR hybrid is simply a cross using a RIR as one part of the cross. The other half could be something like a White Leghorn. There are a lot of commercial egg-layers that use the RIR as one part of the cross.

Breeding a hybrid with anything, you'll just produce a cross (a mutt).
