Hi,
I've located a man that lives not to far from me...and he has layers (supposed to be laying right now) he's going to sell, they seemed sweet natured...but I would like any information available about this breed, he did say they were good layers....egg a day.

I have two RIR's, one a recue and one I raised from chickhood. WONDERFUL layers. They have not stopped laying for me all winter (could be because of the heatlamp.) SUPER sweet temperments. One, Rosie, was the ruler of the roost untill I brought Lucky home. There was a brief chase after I acclimatised them, no real big fight and now Lucky is the Queen. No problems picking them up and handling them. Hope this opinion helps!

I have 6--either RIRs or red rocks--not exactly sure, ( I acuired them as a product of a broken home--not much info came with them.), but they are great layers, and sweet, social birds. It's been hovering around -10C here, and from 6 hens I'm getting two to three a day. Numbers increase as the temp does, at least it seems to so far...

Mine are going well - and they're the nosiest girls in the coop !!!

GOT to know what I'm doing and WHY I'm doing it at ALL times - they're the funniest chickens I have!

:yiipchickIt's been cold here, nothing like your temps...we've hovered at 25 all day. Going to teens tonight....and it's been like that for about 3 days...so if they are still laying that's a plus. I think that's about as cold as it usually gets here in the winter...we've had an ice storm move thru...we have electricity, though many don't...so no complaints... and thank you for your information..I have small children, and they are so looking forward to this adventure.
Anyone know how yorkies do with chickens? Mine are still puppies..

I have 12 RIR and I think they are great. 11hens, and l roo,I get at least 10 eggs a day even tho the weather is in the single digits now, I have one hen that would set if i would let her, but now when she see me coming to gather the eggs, she just gets off the nest and waits until I get the eggs, then fluffs out her feathers and sets back down..They are allreal sweet natured and lay large brown eggs.

Owned by 12 RIR,1 pittbull,1 poodle mix,1 yorkie and1 crabby gray cat.
