Where he can crow to his hearts content. He goes by Rosie. We'll be sad to see him go but we can't have roosters. Up in Northeastern Mass by the NH border. He's about 10 weeks. I'll supply a picture soon.

I'd be glad to take him if that was possible. If he'd be a lot older, he'll have separation anxiety. Hope he gets a new happy, home.
:)

Great news. After almost a month trying to find him a new home, I am happy to report he found one. He'll be free ranging on a farm with about 100 other chickens. A vet who takes in roosters now is his proud owner and I suspect he'll be much happier in his new digs.

To make a short story longer, it turned out we had not 1 but 2 roosters! One of our barred rocks developed his saddle feathers and his comb and waddle became almost fully engorged right after we got rid of Rosie. He started crowing about a week later.

Fortunately, we had named him Josephine which shortens nicely to Jo. Needless to say, we have had a rougher time finding another home for this rooster but as of today, I am please to announce that he, too has found a new home. I'll post some more details later but of the 6 chicks we started with, 1 died and 2 were roosters which gave us a very high 40% rooster rate (of those that lived). Our neighbors will be very pleased that the crowing has ended.

2 of our remaining hens have been laying eggs for the last 3 weeks. We are usually getting 2 per day. I found a soft shell egg today in their pen that I am hoping is the 3rd hen working out the kinks.
