I have a young Rhode Island Red chick that I am trying to sex. I have been looking at the posts of others in this situation, and I've heard about "male specific feathering". Unfortunately, I have no idea what that is/means! Could someone shed some light and explain to me what male specific feathering is in young Rhode Island Red chicks, and maybe include a photo so I know what it looks like?

Red wing patches. Darker mahagony leakage on the wing bows are common in male RIRs. If you post a picture, I could help you sex it. RIRs are not autosexing, but there are a few "clues" that points to a male. If your chick is old enough, males will get male saddles and hackles.
