I group, we just got 2 Rhode Island Red pullets (15 days old) to add to our flock, and I was wondering about their temperament, egg laying and free ranging them?
Anything special I need to know and I woud love to see pictures of yours!!

Thanks a million,
Tonia:)

We have a few RIR's and they are wonderful! Nice temperaments and great egg layers. Ours stay close to home when free ranging and we've never had a problem. Our black sex-link however tends to wander...

Congrats!!!!

haven't got the hang of the picture thing yet (call me techno-challenged), but as temperament goes, my RIR pullets are curious, not flighty or skittish, and good natured. My RIR roo is an EXCELLENT roo and takes very good care of all the rest. He was somewhat too rough (IMO) with some of the younger ones when he was establishing the flock order, but is doing great with them now. Some of my RIR pullets and buff orp pullets will hop up in my lap when I sit in the lawn chair I keep in their run. The Australorps are the most skittish, but it could be because they're the youngest. I hope you enjoy your RIRs!
