Hi all. You have helped me so very much in the past and I thank all of you. I now again need help. My reds are 17 weeks and started laying eggs. We just can't figure out roosters. When we pet them they squat. Do roosters squat? The feathers look all the same. What color tails do roosters have? I have seen posts stating to look at color. We look for walking proud but still cant tell. I can not have it cock-a-doodle cuz of neighbors. Some don't squat as much as others so is that a sign? The combs look the same on the ones that are red. Other have beige combs. The size is the same. The feathers look the same. If someone has Rhodes can you send me a pic of a rooster and hen? Should I post a pic myself. I have 11 all together. On he first time we found eggs there were 7 so does that mean we have 7 hens so far? Does a hen lay one egg ad day or at a time. Enough questions and again I thank you.

I think you must have all hens. By 17 weeks, there would be obvious signs. Differences in the tail, wattle, and the hackle feathers. but pictures always help.

As for the 7 eggs, well 7 hens laid.

I need some help. Attached is a pic of my silver laced hen and what we thought was a Rhode Island Red hen. They are both the same age but our RIR's cone is much more dominate that our silver laced..could I be dealing with a rooster??

they are about 10 weeks old! I don't want a rooster I am hoping its a she.. It's my only RIR so I have nothing to compare too.
Thank you!!

By seventeen weeks, are any of the birds much larger than their flockmates? That can be a sign, check the feathers at the back of the neck, and just above and to the side of the tail, they will be narrow.... but I think you would be knowing by now.

Thank you. She is the same size as the others but her cone came out so much more than the others it made me wonder. I will check the feather in the morning! Thank you!
