There is a lady in my area claiming to sell all 3 kinds:idunno
Rhode island reds
Production reds
Cherry eggers
Does anyone here have any preferences one way or the other? Or info on their dispositions?
I'm just looking to buy a few (4-6) hens for my backyard as layers/pets.

Thanks

I would look in the breeds section of BYC and decide which one you like. First ive ever heard of a cherry egger...interesting.
I have friends who have production reds...very good layers is all i know of them.

Good Luck!

I did some research and here is an excerpt from a local hatchery "Called Cherry Eggers because of the diversity of red shades of the plumage, they have been selectively bred from an original Rhode Island Red Hen X New Hampshire Red Rooster. The eggs Cherry Egger Chickens lay range in color from tans to brown. The eggs are not cherry colored as many might think. The Cherry Eggers can be sexed at 1 day with 90% accuracy by their pinfeathers".

So I guess that they are similar to a production red except for them being able to be feather sexed.

I just bought 33 cherry eggers. They look a lot like a rhode island red, and a red sex-link. mine are only 9 weeks old, but everything I have ready has been good!
