This RIR has some funky tail feathers and a bit larger of a comb than I was thinking "she" should have. We only have one so I have nothing to compare to. Any guesses or ideas on how to identify? Many, many thanks!!

Oh dear. If that is so then this is the second chick today that not only turned out to be a roo but also a completely different breed! Never a dull moment with these chicks!

Production reds are what hatcherys sell as RIRs. But they are much lighter colored than the real RIR. They are still technically a RIR but only bred for egg Production and not the breeds standards

All I really care about with my chickens is eggs and temperament. As long as they are kind to my two little girls and they lay, they're in! Thanks all for the interesting info. It's great to have this forum available to us.

I've heard that. Since it's now Mr. Red he will be going instead of staying. I only want one roo and I would like to keep Mr. Brownie the surprise Welsummer. Sorry Mr. Red!
