I had an Easter Egger Rooster that I had planned on breeding but unfortunately he was taken by a hawk... he will be missed. But now I'm left with my RIR Rooster to breed this year. It's my first time breeding. Through my research, I've read that if I breed my RIR with my White Leghorn I will get a Red Sex Link. If I breed him with my Mystic Maran I will get a Speckled Ranger.

Now I also have a Buff Orphington, Silver laced Wyandotte, Golden laced Wyandotte, Grey and Black Australorp, Light Brahma, and a Plymouth Rock.

What will I get if I breed these girls with my Rhode Island Red? I'm too curious of a person to just start breeding and guess the breed. I'd like to know behaviors, egg colors/quantity, and hardiness that I may get.

Thanks so much in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Any hen with white barring would produce a sexlinked chick.

Hardiness - the hybrid crosses should automatically make the resulting chicks hardier. The only way that would be different is if either parent carries something genetically that doesn't show on them, but does on resulting chicks.

Behaviors & personalities will depend, again, on what the parents pass to thier chicks. I've heard LOTS of horror stories regarding RIR roosters, especially during breeding season. Even a large number of RIR hens are pushy, dominant & can be bullies.

Resulting female chicks would lay a combo of the 2 parent egg colors. Male chicks will carry mix of color genes from parents to pass to thier offspring. Looks like all your breeds lay cream to brown eggs, so no EEs or OEs.

- Wyandotte - cream to brown
- Blue & Black Australorps - light brown. Some of mine had a bloom that made them almost pink.
- Orpington - my Lavenders laid a dark cream. Google shows colors all over the place, including some that look (WOW) lavender.
- Light Brahma - brown, shades vary, but not dark. Should be lighter than a RIR hen should lay.

Chicks from Lite Brahma should have featured legs (believe that is a dominant trait?). Not sure how Columbian pattern birds will do w/ red color, but thinking maybe red sexlink as well?
