Sold to me as EEs. I have 2. They look exactly alike. Single comb and pale feet/legs. Me thinks she's a RIR. I bought 2 Rhode Island Whites. Not much question bout those 2 -- LOL. Thanks in advance.

What is a production red? Is that a generic name for mixed breed that comes out red? Are they produced in mass at chicken factories? Don't mean to show my ignorance but I have not understood that term production red. That's not a breed is it?

By utilizing crosses between New Hampshires and Rhode Islands, Production Reds were developed. Their coloring is similar to a Rhode Island but is not as consistent as they vary from dark to light. Production Reds are one of our best producers of large brown eggs.

Thanks so much. Is there an easy way to distinguish them? This local feed store had several breeds and each was separate. I don't recall production red being on any of those labels. Unfortunately, her young toddler was picking them up and rearranging them from box to box.

I have a PR and as a young pullet looked very very similar to RIR. :) she lays 350 eggs a year :o love her! I honestly don't know of a monumental breed difference. Very similar breeds.

Feed stores order them from Hatcherys, and Hatcherys are good at referring Production Reds as Rhode Island Reds
