Rhode Island White Pullet or Cockerel? **UPDATE**

Ok, something interesting happened tonight. Zeus, our big roo decided to do the "deed" with this chicken. If it was another roo, would it have just stood there and flipped his tail feathers up and let it happen? I'm so puzzled!!!

IT'S A GIRL!!!!!

I have seen Marilyn go over to the nest boxes before and look, but never get in. Well, I was outside this morning refilling food. I had just collected eggs. Marilyn actually got in the nest box. I was so hopeful at that point.

Have you ever heard the phrase "a watched pot never boils?" Well, same is true with a chicken. Especially with that kind of anticipation! Finally SHE hopped out of the nest box and left an egg for me!

Now the question is...what kind of hen is this? The egg is a very, very pale pink. She is about the same size as the EE hens, perhaps a tad bigger. It is extremely obvious that she is not a Rhode Island White as the hatchery said. At this point I guess I don't care what kind she is, just happy that she's a she!

I was positive she looked like a pullet from the start. She didn't have a and sickle feathers and didn't have lanky legs like the roos i've seen. Yay I am very happy for you!

I agree- We had originally named her Mary Kathleen but changed it to Marilyn (Manson). I couldn't have a roo named after my mom!

I wouldn't have believed it...even now...if I hadn't watched her hop in the nest box and stayed out keeping an eye on her!!!
