Hello,

I recently moved to Ridgefield CT and have been wanting chickens for a very long time. I was wondering if anyone knew the local regulations on keeping chickens in ridgefield ct. I would call the town but due to current circumstances they are not open for inquiries. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!!

hi! I think you are ok. In 2017, Ridgefield’s ordinances said you needed to have 1/2 acre of “usable property” to have livestock, including poultry. The word poultry was then deleted from the definition of livestock after a special meeting in December. Looking at the meeting minutes, it seems like people were concerned about the nuisance regulation of hoofed animals, especially horses, and not so much chickens. The removal of poultry from the regulations indicates to me Ridgefield is not interested in restricting backyard chickens, so as long as you keep them secure and their living area clean you probably won’t run into problems.
