Hey everyone im getting new layers in February. I'm wanting to get one more breed and kinda afraid to hatch eggs that are shipped because of what I read. I'm wanting to get some beautiful chicks with long tail feathers any ideas of breeds and where I can get them?

Long tail feathers, on the roosters or hens?
Roosters with a "pheonix" tail (i.e. a Sumatra rooster) require a lot of space and care to keep their tails clean and full.

I'd recommend Phoenix or Yokohamas for first time long tail buyers. Sumatras and Cubalayas are good also but I wouldn't recommend them for first timers. They are very flighty "especially Sumatras" and the males can be aggressive.

Phoenix are nice and pretty easy. Mine free ranged and still had nice, long tails. The main thing is to keep them dry. Sumatras are also beautiful but as Gray Farms said, they are more of a wild type and a bit harder to manage.
