On Saturday we had about an approx. 3 month old ringneck cock fly into the bottom of a roost and break his neck.

Anyway - not one to waste, last night we cooked some boneless skinless pheasant breast on the grill and the leg 1/4's. I really think i'm going to put in some more roosts.

When I was just out of high school I was staying with my aunt and a guy gave her some pheasants. She thought she could keep them penned up about a week or so and let them out to scratch and roost with the chickens. Well, she let them out and they sorta scattered and made themselves scarce. I tried to catch one and her cattle dog got in on the spirit and jumped five feet in the air when he took off and grabbed him hard around the middle and went crunch. He was dead instantly. She threw him in the trash and I pulled him right back out and set to skinning and cleaning him. I didn't know what I was doing, but I had heard that pheasant was the best tasting bird there was. I made a pot of turkey barley soup, substituted pheasant and MAN that was the best turkey barley soup I ever had. That was the only bird that dog ever caught. Coyotes got the rest, but MAN it was good!

Glad you didn't let him go to waste!

I found one in the pen yesterday... not sure what happened to him, so we didn't eat him. I think Hubby is going to use it to train the dogs. It was about 10 weeks old.
