Hello new to the site and had a few questions regarding getting started on breeding ringneck pheasants. I received 4 hens and a rooster all mature and have them in a temporary pen 14'x14'x5' tall at the moment unti I finish the permanent runs (2) 10'x30'x8'. Do my hens need any cover or shelters in either pen to entice them to lay? My temporary pen is grazed short and dirt the I've thrown straw in till spring growth resumes. The new pin is winter killed laid over grass and ragweed (neglected garden area) that i plan to plant with food plot mix. My goal is to slowly expand until I can have my own runs full and sell/butcher/release on our property any birds I dont want to keep while not over crowding the sq ft that I have at the moment. When should I expect them to start laying? The fellow who gave them to me said they were laying before they made to 12 hr trip to kansas. Since I haven't gotten any eggs since I got them (2weeks) im guessing the trip disrupted their laying? Sorry for the long winded description and thanks for any advise. We are also old to chickens, turkey, ducks but new to the pheasants.
