Not sure where to post this, but.....
I sent my son to get the dog dishes off the front porch this morning, and he came back in without dishes, looking very upset, and told me that Outlaw2 was dead. The front porch is where we keep the dogs during the day and let them in at night. When we got home from church last night, Hubby and I went to lock up the chickens for the night. Everyone was in except for Outlaw2. We thought "well, wherever she is, she'll be ok and we will see her running around the yard in the morning."
History:
She was a beautiful EE pullet. Not yet laying, it would've been soon though, she was 20.5 weeks. In the pecking order, she was probably somewhere in the middle. Not long ago, she was attacked by my Game Hen, twice in one day. I think this sent her somewhere to the bottom, or possibly way below, the pecking order. Since the attacks, she has been very docile, letting anyone pick her up when she used to run away. She used to eat and sleep with the rest of the flock. She has also started staying out at night, and we are not able to find her. Then she is in the yard the next day. That's why we weren't worried when she wasn't roosting with the rest of the gang. I'll tell you, from now on, if someone is missing, I will not hesitate to go looking for them.
I have no one to blame for this but myself. If I went to go looking for her, she may still be alive today. Her wounds from the attack were healing. I have no idea how she got on the porch with the dogs, but I can't blame the dogs either, because she came to their place, not the other way around.
