My drake Winston has been struggling the last couple years, been to the vet, no apparent injuries, tried antibiotics and just about everything elsewe could think of, he even spent a whole winter in my basement with a lady friend. Monday night I noticed he was coughing, last night he needed help getting inside, this morning he was gone. I had considered putting him down this summer, but he seemed to want to live, just had a hard time getting around, but he was eating and drinking, so i let him go.
We will miss him and his morning greetings, and all around good nature.

Soad for you and Winston. I understand your sadness: I lost my PingyWingy, a pekin drake, last October and shed buckets of tears. They are so much part of our families. I hope you were able to carry out a burial and lay him to rest somewhere he would like. My son buried Ping wrapped in a towel under a palm tree in my back garden. Its a place where Ping used to love to go foraging and is visited by his coop mates!!!! We put a large Coquina stone over his grave. He is gone but not forgotten. The burial helped me and I am sure might help you. I know Winston knew he was loved!
