I think one of my RIR's laid an egg today! She's only 13 weeks old? Is that possible? She laid in right in the grass. I guess I need to get them in the nest boxes??

Or, it could've been the Buff Brahma.. was thinking she was a rooster though.. I posted pics of he/she under "what sex is this".

Wow! We got our first eggs today at 16 weeks. Thought that was early!

My guess is that you have a cross-dresser in the flock

The BB?

It's a guess, though. Others here know more.

LOL My 1 year old Buff Orpington lays that kind of egg but she goes in the boxes. I can't imagine that she'd lay right by the other chicks?

how cool. my RIRs started laying at 20.5 weeks. (they were born in april) and after two weeks of spotty production they seem to be turning into efficient egg machines

. My RIR is ready to lay any day. I hear the egg song come out from nowhere every once in a while. Her comb grew a bit over last night and her face is very red. So any day!

It's a bit hot here, so maybe that is why she isn't laying.

I WAS going to have april chicks but I couldn't wait, lol.

It's been over a hundred degres here for a month now, I think my girls hate it but their misting system really helps. Good luck!
