I had a rooster that had to be re-homed, he was supposed to be a pullet, and it was hard to find a new place for him. I hope to never go through that again, yet I did get 2 new "pullets" from the same Family Farm and Fleet store. Anyway they told me they (young Kid) that they were both RIR chicks. I told him I thought they had 3 types of chicks not just the two types he thought. At any rate I think the larger light color one is not a RIR. Any one have any idea as to what she might be? She is light cream color with some browner soft striping on her. I will try to post some pictures of the back of her, they show her coloring best. The other one looks like a Rhode Island Red to me. Thank you, sandra

sorry I think there is a double post with pictures in that one. First time posting and all that. Thanks for the welcome and I hope to post some more pictures on this reply.

Thank You everyone.
wild Orchid, I dont see your Picture? I am new to the site, have lurked for a while but this is the first day I have posted, so maybe its just me.
The two babies are in my master bath right now till they can go outside. The other chick I had was a banty, and she turned into a Rooster. I kept chickyRoo for most of the summer, but all the houses around here are very close and he was going after my granddaughter so we found him a new home on a farm. But I sure hope the two replacements are hens. We were attached to ChickyRoo, even my Granddaughter.
Is a red sexed a type of RIR? or a different type altogether? Also My Chicken Hutch is about 36" by 24" about 12" by the 24" is sectioned off for a nest box. Both the nest box and the main part have doorways. It was for a banty Hen, I didnt want to chance a rooster again so we went with the full size hens. The guy said it was easier for the hatchery to sex them than the bantam ones. So will that be big enough? They only need to sleep in there, I have a fenced yard that has a lot of plants and trees in it that they will have free range in, then after they go inside for the night I lock their door. Worked great for ChickyRoo.

thank You, Sandra

Red-Sex links are crosses that are very popular for their egg production, hardiness and the fact that they can be sexed from birth. Usually a cross between an RIR rooster and a Delaware hen I believe. If it is a sex-link the chances of it being female are excellent - the males are usually paler yellow as chicks while the females have more reddish brown.
Best of luck! - I've got three red-sex links and they're all female, two of which I thought were buff orpingtons when I selected them.
