I inherited this mixed Rooster, so I know nothing about his genetics. I have 3 broodies that are sitting on eggs. The egg from the RIR in the photo hatched this morning, and the chick is black with a yellow dot on it's head. I understand that this means there's barring in the mix. Would this then be a male? The 3 hens are still sitting on his stock from the following hens:
Blue cochin, Barred Rock, Wellsummer, Ameraucauna, and some other barnyard mixes.
If he has 1 barred gene, what would I expect from his offspring from the hens that are not mixes? Does the male give only 1 gene, meaning it's 50/50 if he gives the barred or not, or will there be barring in all his offspring?

You won't know if this rooster carries barring unless you breed him to non-barred hens and see what his offspring look like (since the barring genetics could be masked by white.)

When crossed to solid colored, non-white females, if all of his chicks are barred, he carries double barring. If some of his chicks are barred, he carries single barring.
