We have a 12 week old RIR pullet that occasionally will have her left eye closed. We initially thought she scratched her eye, it's clear and she didn't have it closed all the time. We treated it with eye wash and I put a little topical bacitracin around. It seemed to work. Then about a week later, she had her eye closed again - still completely clear eye, no scratches that I could see. She was fine the next day - I thought since it has been so hot, and it was hot on the other time, it might have something to do with the heat. Today, she's had her eye closed again, it's cooler and has been raining all day. She still is eating and doing all the things chickens do, but just having the eye closed.
Should I be concerned? None of the other chickens have this going on, and the eye is clear. What could it be, and is there something that I could be giving her or all of them?

I had this happen to two of my chickens, they both closed only their right eye, they weren't acting lethargic at all and I didn't treat them or anything, it went away on its own. I responded to another thread about this same exact thing, they never replied back. Here's the thread.->

I just checked her this morning and it's back open. I might give them all some electrolytes just to be on the safe side. I don't know why it's happening though.

How did this work out for your chicken? I have a 10 week old that has been keeping one eye closed today, nothing wrong that I can see yet.

Same thing happened with one of my 9 week old girls last week. No drainage or swelling
She did seem a bit lethargic to me and just let me pick her up which isn't the norm. I washed her eye out and gave her electrolytes. She was fine the next day and has not had any problems since. Hope all turns out well with your chicken.

This thread is from 7/22 and the OP made only the 1 post - they have not been back on since.
If you have a bird that is not well and you need help, it's best to start your own thread in the ER section so you can post information (symptoms, photos, treatments, etc.) and get suggestions geared towards your unique situation.
