My first year raising chickens and wanting to keep my flock all Rhode Island Reds. Now have 3 roosters and 12 hens, 18 weeks old. I intend to reduce to 2 roosters and 8 or 10 hens and eventually hatch out new flock the old fashioned way. Would love info on how to identify which roosters/hens will be best to keep for this purpose.

Welcome to BYC.

There is a wonderful thread that is practically a university course on Heritage Rhode Island Reds here on BYC.

Some of the nations best breeders of the Red are on the thread, from time to time. Lots of discussion on body type, coloration, etc. I highly recommend this thread if you have interest in breeding quality RIR. Where did you get your birds?

Thank y'all for the warm welcome. I'm a country boy in Virginia not too good with this computer stuff so excuse me if I screw it all up. Thanks Fred's Hens for the link. I'll surely check it out.
