Thinking about raising meat birds or duals in Western Wyoming for the summer months (May-October), elevation 6000'. Have a shed for a coop and a dog to watch them. Any hints on how to get started? What breeds would do well in our cold, but sunny climate (it gets up 85F in July/August, but it can freeze anytime of the year)? Does it matter, if they're male or female, if they're just for meat (would multiple males fight)? PM me, if you live close by and are willing to show off your operation.

Thanks for all replies in advance...RB

from UT! Sorry, I don't raise meat birds, but if you try posting in the Meat Birds section, you will find your answers there.

Birds with rose or pea combs do well in extremely cold climates. There are Buckeyes, Chanteclers, Rose-combed Rhode Island Reds, etc.
