I just introduced a blue yellow bantam duo to the coop with my 7 other chickens and they have food AND water available and when I went back outside to check on them my roo was faced down and I checked his mouth and throat were full with food. What did I do wrong? I made sure they knew where the water was and they drank some before I went inside. Does this happen often? I'm not sure on age but they look 18 months. Why did he choke?! I'm so sad and confused. He was gorgeous

What's the chances another chook smashed him while he was eating? If he was cropbound I'd expect you'd have seen some symptoms. That's quite a large chook standing beside him there, and its body language is not overly relaxed or friendly. Some LF chooks don't view bantams as chooks, but more as pigeons or other birds, and can be extremely aggressive to them, attempting to kill them without any provocation or warning.

Sorry for your loss, they made a handsome little pair.

Best wishes.
