I have a 23 week old speckled Sussex roo who's comb tips were really black the other day so I thought he had gotten frost bite over the winter and it got worse (thought frost bite during our really cold spell when i first noticed a dark color on the comb tips). it has now been warm for a few weeks and kept seeing the black tips. This am I went out and his comb tips were red, later in the day they were black and now red again. Any ideas?

Comb color is a poor indicator of health as it changes color frequently in response to a variety of stimuli. Hormonal levels, cold/heat, circulatory conditions, dominance with in a flock are all things that the color changes in response to. Most of these have no relation whatsoever to the overall health of the bird. So, I say that unless the comb turns dusky and stays that way, do not let it concern you.

Good luck.
