Roo coup NOT coop BUT coup!

Ok, so the Junior Roo has been on his coup for going on 3 weeks. Not so bloody now, also helped I trimmed the spirs.

How long do we have to watch this sad change go on? Also the Former King is trying to hide out in the house!


This is the old King Dumplings! He is just shy of 2 years and has a good 5 pounds on the new King but runs from him, he also is a good flogger, ask my wife!!

This is Pidg he is the lite weight Roo and about 18 months old.

How many hens do you have? Personally, I'd get rid of the one that's flogging your wife, and keep the youngster. (I'd also get rid of him if he goes after people, but that's just my opinion) Those two birds could go at it until one dies, as happened with a friend of mine (Jr. killed Sr. rooster) or they may go at it until one gives up. That doesn't mean they'll stay done, though. The submissive one may decide to challenge on occasion just in case he thinks he can win again.

Bobbi-j Thanks that is/was what I was thinking and afraid of. I would like to get ride of the flogger but that is my wife's bird, irony! but she likes him so I have to wait for her OK to knock his head off!! We have 7 hens and 6 new girls that are 17 weeks and being introduced to the flock for about 5 weeks. I am wondering if the new girls "caused" him to want to be "King"!

I agree with bobbi-j. I reckon that its just his hormones kicking in to be honest. Its likely to be a messy (and possibly fatal) affair if you have more than one roo and so few girls.

Well, then, I guess you need to get rid of the youngster or put the two males in a bachelor pad away from the hens. If it were my flock, one would have to go. (I already gave you my opinion on which one that should be, but I guess if your wife enjoys getting attacked, that's her business.

) At 18 weeks, I'm guessing he's got some raging hormones going on. I don't know if the addition of the extra females would have made a difference, or if it's just *that* age.
