OK We are new to this and I need some help here.

We have 3 hens and a roo all BArred Rocks. We got them at christmas and they are just now 5 months old. No eggs that we have found. Gonna redo the nesting box and lock them in for a few days here soon to get them laying in the right place.

Our big question is........Little man is getting aggressive with the girls. He is protective of his girls but sometimes he will jump at them and peck them. Is this normal? Trying to resist the urge to cook him when he goes off on them.LOL

Any advise is welcome. Thanks!

Sounds like your roo just discovered "the birds and the bees."

Yeah, I know it looks violent. But it is normal.

You might have a problem because of not having enough hens for your roo. Hens do best when the roo has more hens to "do his thing" with. They say that a ratio of 10 hens to 1 roo is obtimal, but I only had 5 hens for my roo at one point, and it seemed to do OK.

I was a newbee not to long ago myself, and it shocked me the first few times I saw my roo mount one of his hens.
