This little one has a Starlight Olive Egger momma and a Partridge Silkie daddy, was hatched about 12:30 am EST last night (6/12/25). Little bit of a surprise because most of the eggs I allowed my one broody hen and 2 of my broody Runner ducks to set on were guinea eggs. I'd forgotten about the 2 Easter Egger eggs I gave the hen at the same time. This one was pipping so for safety I brought it up and placed it in the incubator which has a mixed batch of Silkie and guinea eggs with 9 days to go on the Silkies. With the humidity around 45-50%, I temporarily raised it to 70% and checked every 15-20 minutes. About 90 minutes later, we have this cute baby. The 2 sexing methods I use both point to a roo, but would like an option from someone who knows wing sexing as I can never remember.
If it is a roo, I'm calling him Ragtop. Most my roosters over the last 5 years get names involving vehicles, daddy is named Ford. I have Chevy, Carter and Edelbrock (Brock) and some past roosters were Slick (Racing Slicks), Dodge, Duece, and Chevelle. Starting 5 years ago, all my roosters get names involving vehicles in some manner. Not sure of a name if a pullet yet, most of my 35 hens don't have names. A few earned their names due to an injury or something unique about them. I do have a hen named Mustang, but she fooled me and others for months as she presented as a rooster until she laid an egg. She turned out to be my wild child too.
I took this about an hour ago.
Thanks in advance. Have a wonderful rest of your day.
