Hi all, My roo has an injured leg. About 3 weeks ago I noticed that he was limping and favoring it. And when I looked at it, it was pretty raw. He doesn't seem to want to extend it fully. I can manipulate it. Doesn't appear broken. I have been treating it with an ointment and giving him olive oil with some drops of Oregano oil mixed in. Half dropper to prevent infection. I'm keeping him in a crate and feeding him greens, veggies, some grain, boiled rice berries. (he eats well hah) The skin appears to be bunched up above the injury. its not bleeding. And there isn't a chicken doc around. He's a good boy, I really don't want to lose him. My questions are: What else can I do? Has anyone ever had to deal with this type of injury before?

Hopefully you are using an antibacterial type ointment or colloidal silver, maybe honey to keep infection at bay topically.

I might suggest you add more protein to his diet. Do you feed him any chicken feed? If not then maybe some tuna or scrambled egg.
Protein is helpful for tissue repair.

Can you get close enough to smell it? She's it smell bad? It's hard to see it, but can you tell how deep it was?
Yes I smelled it - it’s not rotten or infected. It’s pretty deep. I’ll get more pics when I get home

I’m using a salve that I get from herbalist in Cherokee. I post the ingredients. It’s pretty good stuff for healing. I’ll definitely add more protein to his diet. I’ll add silver to his water and the ointment. Great idea. I have some made in fact. Thanks!
