We are transforming our shed into a chicken coops, I am going to have a fenced coop area for them attached to the coop itself, they are mostly free range but for the days I can't let them out in the yard they will have this area.
I am wondering would it be better to put on roof on at least part of the outside coop area? or does it matter? I wasn't going to put it all over the top, also part of the outside coop will be in a bushy area which I thought would be good for shade and such.

thanks

You will be glad you roofed as much of your run as possible! Rain and especially snow; chickens hate walking in snow! Unless you like shoveling it out all winter, add that roof!

That's called the 'run' ;)
Yes, for sure solid roof as much as you can,
good for shade and really good for those nasty winter days.
Remember to make it strong enough for your snow load,
and access to maybe rake snow off of it.(Pretend it's winter and move around run too see where you can stand to rake roof). Also think about where and how to put up some wind/snow breaks on run walls.
