Roof vent

I recently had my coop roof replaced. The clearance on the roof vent seems larger than it was previously. How many inches should it be to keep out predators? My issue seems to be raccoons of late. TIA for your advice
 
I'm not 100% sure what this looks like but I would think you could line the opening with hardware cloth to keep out any predators. If not, I would say no more than 4 inches. The more ventilation for a coop the better, so don't go skimpy with the roof vent. Hope this helps! :)
