I adopted a rooster yesterday. Not sure of background other than he was confiscated in city limits where there is a ban against having chickens. I currently have 6 week old chicks and poults. How can I intigrate him into my chick flock. I tested him in there yesterday and the poor guy was attacked by the chicks and poults. He never got aggressive with them just tried to run from them. Any suggestions?

Do you have a seperate area to put him in to introduce him, like a wire dog kennel or seperate area next to the run or fence? Sometimes introducing them at night is best, they're too sleepy to fight.

I dont think they could hurt him. I would ghess he will soon get tired of this treatment and establish his dominance. (Is he grown up) Watch him though He could kill the little guys. He is not used to his new home yet.

I am currently keeping him in a lg dog kennel in the garage. I have been taking him out regularly and trying to get him used to us. He seems very gentle. Sat on my arm and looked around the house, let me file his spurs down, check him all over, and then he laid on my lap and went to sleep. I don't know how old he is. Is there a way to tell?

How long should I wait to let hime free range without him running off. My daughter went and opened the kennel I brought him home in yesterday and he got loose in the yard. Luckly my pup has kinda figured out how to herd chickens.
