Hey Everyone!

So, today we butchered 30 roos. We started out with a discounted lot of chicks from tractor supply and had no idea how great pullets are compared to straight runs. We have almost 300 chickens, so you can imagine the roo overpopulation.

Anyway, a few (3 or less) of the roos had a small to large bump on their chest. When we cut it off, it appeared to be some kind of cyst with liquid in it. It was always located in the middle of the breast.

What is this? Thanks for your input!

I've heard that fast growing meat birds can get blisters on their breasts, especially if they are allowed to roost.

I had that in a few of my Freedom Rangers I butchered a couple of weeks ago. They didn't have a roost. No idea what it was caused from, but I just cut it off and kept going.

Thanks for the info guys! I didn't specify what kind of roos they were - a mixed batch of heritage breeds. They may have been roosting in the coop but these guys we culled from the ones who wouldn't go in the coop at night (long story).
