I just put a couple of Roos in with my hens for hopes of hatching a few eggs. How long can I expect before they are dependably fertile for hatching? I plan on using my newly, just homemadely manufactured star foam bator.

My roo ratio to hen is 1:14, and large standard breeds.

Thanks in advance.

Standard time is 3 weeks. During that waiting time, you can start looking for fertility 'bullseyes' when you crack eggs to eat them. You should start finding more and more as the days go by. Optimally, you'd want all the ones you're eating to show bullseyes before you decide to collect some to incubate.

Sounds like fun. Good luck!

Thank you for the response. I didn't know there was a way to determine fertility other than candling. I will look for the bullseyes. Thanks!
