Roost Height?

Hello
I just finished our coop its 8x8x8 what height should the roosts be for standard chix?

I am using a 8 ft cedar log attached at a angle across the coop.

I would but the roost maybe 3ft off the floor. They will try to roost as high as they can so maybe higher.

I would make it at least 2 feet high but make sure it is slightly higher than the nests or anything else they may be tempted to use as a roost.

Can they make the jump to 4' or would that promote flight?

Nest boxes are 30" from the floor

You can "ladder" the roosts, about 12" apart, 12" vertical and horizontal. Start around 30" since that is your nest box height, and go up from there. You do not want them directly above each other, and you want them away from the wall so the birds have room.
