I'm sure this has been asked somewhere, but I couldn't find it with the search- sorry!

When do the chicks need a roost? I have 3 1 week old chicks, and they like to perch on my arm (its the only thing my two Marans chicks like me for

)

Also, what is a good width for chicks? These are standards, but in a couple weeks I'll have some bantams too.

Thanks!

We threw together a little roost when the chicks were about 2-3 weeks old. It was only about 5-6 inches tall but they all sat on it.

When ever they start flying up on the side of the bator i go outside and grap a few twigs, put them up 4 or 5 inches off the ground and they are satisfied with that. when i move them to the bigger bador i put a little roost about 10 inches off the ground. really whenever is fine.

Ours are 2-3 wks old and we have 3 little roosts at about 4, 10 & 15 inches. We used 1x1s because that's what we had. Branches or wider scrap wood is fine too.
