Hello there, this is my first post but I have been a long time reader on here.

After a disease and old age took my flock last year we decided to start fresh. We got 6 hens... So we thought.

We ended up with 5 hens and a Rhode Island red Roo. Since we had a rooster before it wasn't a big deal. Also having grown up with them it's a sound that I was missing.

The issue is he crows from 3am until 11pm. Non stop. Our last one crowed in the morning which was fine but this one does not stop. Even the other roosters in the neighborhood don't answer back. I've never had one crow so much. It gets to the point where it's annoying the neighbors. I called animal control and they said as long as I was not mistreating him there was nothing they could do if someone called.

My question is will he calm down? He's about 5 months old. This is the first Roo I've raised. I usually get them when they are older and people don't want them. If he keeps this up I'm going to have to find him a home. As much as I like him some quiet time would be great.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

I doubt he will change his crowing behavior, unless it is caused by some external factor, like a street light or predator or something. I wouldn't want anyone else to get stuck with that either, so I wouldn't find a new home for him. If it doesn't change I'd cull him.

We blacked out the coop. Insulated the whole thing. It's much better because you don't hear him.

They are in their pen and then the whole yard is fenced in. My 2 dogs keep the predators away. The dogs and chickens get along great. The dogs watch out for them when I let the chickens out of the pen.
Now that I think about it the roo doesn't crow as much when the dogs are out.
