I had a hen follow me out of the chicken yard. I picked her up, pet her, and gently set her back inside the lot. One of my roosters kept flogging her for the next 30 minutes until they went in to roost for the night. One hen did a couple of times. What is up with that? I need to handle them occasionally to check for lice, etc. I sit with them, hand feed treats, and occasionally pet them. This flogging is new. I have 3 roos. Two are Ameraucanas and one is an EE. He is my EE (Not the top rooster.) and is one of the two I'm planning to sell. Is this normal rooster behavior? My hens are Plymouth Barred Rocks. Thank you for your help!

The cockerels mature before pullets of the same age, and it can be a problem, especially in a flock of youngsters like yours. In a mixed age flock, the adult roosters and hens help 'civilize' the idiot adolescents, and this is less likely to occur.
It's good that this cockerel will be leaving!
